Chandigarh May 15(PUNJ): A 15-member delegation of National Pasmanda Sikh
Foundation and Dalit Hitaishi Group of Intelligentsia headed by S.
Attar Singh Dhur, Member Working Committee and President of the
Foundation today called on Mr. Sarwan Singh Phillaur, Tourism,
Cultural Affairs and Jail Minister Punjab and apprised him of the
their demands in uplifting the social, educational and economic status
of the underprivileged, oppressed and dalit sections of the society
and also the problems being faced by them both in government and other
sectors.
The National Pasmanda Sikh Foundation, comprising of the
intellectuals and senior retired government officers, submitted a
memorandum to the Minister highlighting the plight of the downtrodden
and neglected sections of the society and demanded that the
reservation policy formulated to benefit the dalits/ backward classes
in getting the jobs in the government must be enforced in true letter
and spirit.
Assuring the delegation of extending all possible help, Mr. Phillaur
said that the Punjab government was committed to safeguard the
interests of downtrodden and underprivileged sections of the society
and has formulated a number of policies to uplift their social,
economic and educational status. He further said that the government
has seized of the matter and the vital issues raised by the delegation
would be discussed at the level of the Chief Minister and the minister
concerned before redressing their grievances.
